This client had a poorly functioning driveway and a large front garden which they weren’t utilising due to having a generous back garden space too.
Being in a conservation areas, they’d secured planning permissions to move their driveway entrance from it’s existing location to the other side of the front garden where the space is deeper.
We designed and created a much larger driveway area with a strong entrance area at the front of the house. We built new steps in the style of the originals which had deteriorated with age, keeping a similar footprint but using a Sandstone paving slab and block paving combination.
We finished the driveway with EccoGravel 40 gravel stabilisation system to provide a free draining, practical hard-standing with the added benefit of the lovely crunch that the gravel gives - leaning into the grandeur of the surroundings.
We brought the planting right up against the house to flank the front entrance, soften the view from the street towards the house and keep users of the space away from the window. The planting is in full sun and we took the opportunity to add some lovely clipped balls, soft fluffy ornamental grasses and hot-coloured perennial plants to bring colour in the Summer months.
As part of the planning stipulation, we infilled the original driveway entrance with the down takings and you’d never know it was there!
